Day 2
One of the most crucial aspects of being more intentional is to really embrace our identity. Repurposing ourselves can lead to identity loss. Remember what that looks like, in the physical we take an old box put a glass top on it and suddenly ta daaaa it’s a table! We can do that with our lives. Consider this, I realize that I first lost my identity when I was a kid. Wounds were created surrounded by uncertainty, fear and misperceptions. Fast forward into adult life and now I’m an adult with voids in my life caused by these situations. I will try to fill these voids with people, with habits, with negative choices. For me personally, I realized I became a chameleon based on my surroundings. I repurposed myself over and over. I have been a cyclist, equestrian, runner, kayaking enthusiast, vegan, politically active, car enthusiast, etc. Sound draining? It was. You see my identity was lost long ago as I tried to be what others wanted me to be just so I could be loved. On the positive side, I have experienced much. After lots of reflection and healing, I could actually keep the things I truly enjoyed and discard the things that just weren’t me. It took me some time to truly figure out who I was. If I’m honest, I’m still evolving and I believe we all are until we take our finally breath. You see friends that is the key. We must continue moving forward. We should be striving to be the best we can possibly be based on who we were created to be. You should not be able to take one year of your life compare it to another and have it look exactly the same just different people involved. Honestly, when I looked back, I have moved church homes, geographic homes, friendships. All in the name of finding myself? In reality, I was actually running from myself. Will you allow yourself to catch up with life? I’m wondering if today is the day for some of us to be introduced to our hearts for the first time?
In your quiet time today, consider who you are…What makes your heart beat ferociously? When do you feel most alive? What are you doing now that you really could take or leave? What have you always wanted to do? What are your favorite traits about yourself? If you could describe yourself in one sentence what would it say?
Ephesians 1:11-12 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
